Set Password for New Microsoft Exchange Email Account

Step-by-Step Guide: To changing Your Password for a New Microsoft Exchange Email Account

When you first log into your new Microsoft Exchange email account, you will be required to use the temporary password provided by your administrator. To secure your account, you should immediately change this to a unique password.

Follow these steps:

Step 1. Log in with the Temporary Password provided by Freelance Computers
1. Open your web browser and go to Outlook on the web (often via https://outlook.office.com or https://exchangewebmail.co.uk)
2. Enter your email address.
3. Enter the temporary password you were given.
4. Click Sign in.

Step 2. Change Your Password
Once you log in for the first time, you will usually be prompted to update your password automatically. If not, follow these steps:

1. Click on your Profile icon (top-right corner).
2. Select My Account or View Account.
3. Navigate to Security info or Password settings.
4. Click Change password.

Step 3. Create a Strong Password
When choosing your new password, ensure it meets your organisation’s security requirements. Typical guidelines include:
* At least 8–12 characters long
* A mix of upper and lower case letters
* At least one number
* At least one special character (e.g., !, £, %, &)
* Avoid using personal information or common words

Enter your old password (the temporary one), then your new password, and confirm it.

Step 4. Save and Sign In Again
1. Click Submit or Save.
2. You may be prompted to sign out.
3. Sign in with your new password to confirm the change.

Step 5. Update Password on Other Devices
If you use the email account on your phone, tablet, or other mail clients (e.g., Outlook desktop app), update the saved password there:
* Open your email settings on the device.
* Locate the account settings for your Exchange account.
* Enter the new password to avoid sync issues.

Step 6. Enable Additional Security (If Required)
Some organisations require multifactor authentication. If prompted:
1. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your phone number or authentication app.
2. Confirm the setup to add an extra layer of protection.

Your Microsoft Exchange email account is now secured with your own password.

Tip: Store your new password securely and never share it with others.
